The Tin Drum

by Gunther Grass

I'm rereading this ridiculously amazing book--Gunther Grass rocks my world. This is one of the most grotesque, shining, gorgeous, painful books I've ever read. I'm loving it.

I'm reading 'The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao'. Wow! I loved 'The Tin Drum'. I was very disappointed when Grass revealed that he was a nazi sympathizer and in the German army in his recent book, 'Crabwalk'. I still love books by authors whose politics and actions I may abhor such as Knut Hamsun, T.S. Eliot and the like. It is so difficult for me to reconcile horrible deeds by people who create such beauty.
